The complete Menicon system, in one pack

MeniCare Plus, the daily multi-action solution, together with Menicon Progent, the intensive protein remover. Bought separately, most people buy one and skip the other — which is exactly the problem this pack is meant to solve.

MeniCare Plus is the nightly workhorse for ortho-K and rigid lens wearers: it cleans, disinfects, rinses, stores and conditions in a single bottle, and it is what most of our ortho-K patients use.

Progent is the step almost nobody does, and it is the most underused product in rigid lens care. Protein and lipid bind to a rigid lens surface no matter how carefully you clean it each night. That film is usually why a lens that felt superb in March feels hazy and scratchy by August — and when someone tells us their lenses "aren't as good as they used to be", Progent is normally the answer. There are seven treatments in a pack, used roughly fortnightly by a daily wearer, so one pack lasts a good few months.

Progent is a strong oxidising system, not a soaking solution. Lenses must be rinsed thoroughly, exactly as the instructions state, before they go anywhere near an eye, and the solution should be kept away from skin, clothing and children. Buying the two together also saves a second freight charge — our shipping is a flat rate per parcel.

Who it's for

  • Ortho-K (overnight corneal reshaping) wearers
  • Rigid gas permeable and keratoconus lens wearers
  • Anyone whose rigid lenses have gone hazy, filmy or less comfortable over months of wear
  • Existing MeniCare Plus users who have never used Progent

Questions we get asked

How often should I use Progent?
Roughly fortnightly for a daily wearer — there are seven treatments in a pack. Follow the frequency printed on the pack and whatever we have advised for your particular lenses.

Can I leave the lenses in Progent longer for a deeper clean?
No. Use the soak time given in the instructions and do not exceed it — longer is not better and over-soaking can discolour a lens. Then rinse thoroughly before the lens is worn or stored. Progent is an oxidising system, so the rinse step is not optional.

Can I rinse my lenses or my case under the tap?
No, and this is the one we most want you to remember. New Zealand tap water is safe to drink but it is not sterile, and it can carry Acanthamoeba — an organism that causes a rare but sight-threatening corneal infection. Never let tap water touch your lenses, your lens case, or your hands immediately before you handle lenses. Dry your hands on a lint-free towel.

Can I just store my lenses in saline overnight?
No. Saline rinses; it does not disinfect, so a night in saline is not disinfection. Preserved rinsing salines are also not recommended for scleral, ortho-K or daily-wear rigid lens use — we explain why here.

Can I use soft lens multipurpose solution instead?
No. Rigid lenses need rigid-specific care. See the full ortho-K and RGP lens care range and the rest of the Menicon range.

My lenses look fine — do I still need Progent?
Usually yes. Deposit is largely invisible until vision has already dropped off, which is why it is so easy to skip. There is more on building a routine in our ortho-K and RGP lens care guide. Replace your lens case every three months as well.
